Phorid / Humpback Flies

Identification:  The common name of the phorid fly (humpback) comes from their humpbacked profile when viewed from the side.  Adults are 1/6 to 1/4"  in length and are brown to black in color.

Habits:  The adult female will lay from 1-100 eggs on a food source at one time. (Up to 750 in a lifetime)  Once the eggs hatch, the larvae will feed on moist, decaying organic materials.  These flies can be found in garbage cans, drains, and any decaying food source.  They will also live in over-watered plants in an office environment.

Control:  Sanitation, adults with properly labeled aerosol.   We at Monroe Pest Control Co., Inc.  can eliminate an infestation and we warranty our work.
